Supporting researchers by enabling the public to contribute
Historesch is a unique initiative from the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History. Its goal? To connect everyday citizens with the work of historians by crowdsourcing knowledge and memories around old photographs. We were tasked with creating a visual identity, website, and digital tool that would make this interaction intuitive, engaging, and meaningful.

Branding
Our brand seamlessly blends tradition with innovation, capturing the essence of timeless heritage in a contemporary digital form. The visual elements cleverly intertwine layers of history, relevance, and nostalgia, creating a welcoming and up-to-date appeal. Designed to appeal to both scholarly circles and the wider audience, it strikes the perfect harmony between credibility and approachability.
Website & web app
The core of the platform is a custom-built web app that allows users to upload, tag, and comment on historical photographs. Through this participatory tool, users contribute valuable context and knowledge, helping researchers piece together a more complete picture of the past. The website architecture was designed to be simple and welcoming, encouraging discovery while supporting long-term engagement with the project.
